Patrick Dillon 

Birth: Abt. 1809, Gortacloghane Listowel Co Kerry

 

        Patrick Dillane was born in 1809, the son of Unknown and Patrick Dillane. He married Margaret Dillane on February 23, 1841, in Duagh, Kerry, Ireland. They had seven children in 17 years. He died on June 26, 1876, at the age of 67.

Margaret Dillane

 

Birth: 1827, Gorthacloghane Listowel Co Kerry

 

        Margaret Dillane was born in 1827, the daughter of Mary Brosnihan and David Dillane. She married Patrick Dillon (Dillane) on 23 Feb 1841, in Duagh, Kerry, Ireland. They had seven children in 17 years.

        When Patrick Dillane was born in 1842 in Listowel, Kerry, Ireland, his father, Patrick, was 33 and his mother, Margaret, was 15. He had two brothers and four sisters. He died on October 4, 1869, in Connecticut at the age of 27, and was buried in Waterbury, Connecticut.

Catherine Dillon

        When Catherine Dillon was born in 1851 in County Kerry, Ireland, her father, Patrick, was 42 and their mother, Margaret, was 24. She married Richard Neary in 1870. They had 12 children in 21 years. She died on May 22, 1896, in Naugatuck, Connecticut, at the age of 45.

Bridget Dillon

BIOGRAPHY:

 

        When Bridget Dillon was born in about 1851, her father, Patrick, was 42 and her mother, Margaret, was 24. She married Bartholomew Dillane on January 30, 1869, in Lixnaw, Kerry, Ireland. They had ten children in 20 years. She died on July 29, 1926, in Glenderry, Kerry, Ireland, at the age of 75.

Elizabeth Dillane

BIOGRAPHY:

 

        When Elizabeth Dillane was born on June 28, 1853, her father, Patrick, was 44, and her mother, Margaret, was 26. She married Michael Enright and they had five children together. She then married Timothy D Ford and they had one son together. She died on August 20, 1924, in Connecticut at the age of 71.

Edmund Patrick Dillon

 

BIRTH: September 1856, County Kerry, Ireland (probably Listowel)

 

BIOGRAPHY: 

 

        Before coming to the United States, Edmund (Edward) served in the English army and was stationed in India for part of that time.  He also taught music and math in schools, and taught Gaelic underground (it was forbidden by the English).  He taught Gaelic privately when he came to the United States.

 

        Edmund married Ellen Bunce in 1880, and they arrived in the United States the same year.

 

        In the Waterbury, Connecticut Directories, 1889-91, he was listed as follows: In 1889, as Edward Dillon, Brennan's Lane, Union City, Naugatuck, CT, employed by the Tuttle & Whittemore Co.; in 1890, at the same address, employed by the Naugatuck Malleable Iron Co.; and in 1891, as living on Spring Street, Union City, Naugatuck, CT, and employed by the Naugatuck Malleable Iron Co.  The Waterbury and Naugatuck City Directories in 1894 and 1895 list Edmund as living on Prospect Street, Union City, and being employed by the Naugatuck Malleable Iron Company.

        At the time of the 1900 Census, Edmund (Edmond) P. was 43 years old, a day laborer, and living at 82 Spring Street, Naugatuck, CT (3-WD - Series: T623; Roll: 144; Page: 217; District: 339), with his wife, Ellen (39); his daughters: Margaret M. (18), a shoemaker for the Rubber Company, Theresa E. (12), Catherine A. (5), Julia E. (2); and his sons: Patrick T. (17), a laborer at the Button Shop, David D. (15), a laborer at the Button Shop, Edmond J. (13), John J. (10), and Dennis F. (7). 

 

        In 1902, Edmund was a laborer, living at 82 Spring Street, Union City, Naugatuck, CT (Connecticut City Directories, Naugatuck, 1902).  

 

DEATH: Edmund was 49 years, 7 months old, when he died on 7 May 1906, at his home at 24 Anderson Street, Naugatuck, Connecticut. He had been suffering with pulmonary tuberculosis for over two years (treated by Wallet A. Reilly, MD), and died as the result of a pulmonary hemorrhage (attending doctor, W. P. McCarety).

BURIAL: Edmund is buried in a family plot, with his wife, Ellen (d 22 Feb 1948) and his son, Patrick (d 9 May 1943), in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck, CT.

 

 

Mary Ann Dillon

BIRTH: 11 Dec 1859, :Gortacloghane Listowel Co Kerry

 

BIOGRAPHY:

 

        When Mary Ann Dillon was born on December 11, 1859, her father, Patrick, was 50, and her mother, Margaret, was 32. She married Michael J Scanlon on September 15, 1881, in Naugatuck, Connecticut. They had nine children in 19 years. She died on November 2, 1918, in Naugatuck, Connecticut, at the age of 58, and was buried there.
