BIOGRAPHY: 

        William immigrated to the United States in 1880.  He was a Philippine Insurrection veteran, having served in Co. M., of the 9th U.S. Infantry Corp.  At the time of the 1920 Census, William was 41 years old, a die cutter and farmer, and living on his farm, on Bethlehem Street, Woodbury, CT (Series: T625; Roll: 187; Page: 272; District: #235), with his wife, Nellie I. (39); his two daughters, Eunice C. (13), and Jean M. (11); his son, David B. (3 years, 2 months); his Father, Peter, 72 years old (b 21 Mar 1848, Scotland), a clerk, Postal (?); and his brother, David M., 37 years old (b 1883, CT), single, and a farmer.

        At the time of the 1930 Census, William was 51 years old, a die cutter, at a brass factory, and living at 164 Flanders Road, Woodbury, CT (Series: T626; Roll: 270; Page: 292; District: 58), with his wife, Nellie I. (49); his two daughters, Eunice C. (23), and Jean M. (21), both employed as dental assistants; and his son, D. Bruce (13).

DEATH: 4 Jan 1937

BURIAL: William is buried, with his wife, Nellie Irene (d 2 Jul 1978), at Riverside Cemetery, Waterbury, CT.  His Father, Peter Crighton (d 17 Sep 1929), and Mother, Jeanie Muir Crighton (b 4 Dec 1856; d 16 May 1908), are buried in the same family plot.

        At the time of the 1920 Census, Nellie was 39 years old, and living on the family farm, on Bethlehem Street, Woodbury, CT (Series: T625; Roll: 187; Page: 272; District: #235), with her husband, William (41), a die cutter and farmer; her two daughters, Eunice C. (13), and Jean M. (11); her son, David B. (3 years, 2 months); her father-in-law, Peter, 72 years old (b 1848, Scotland), a clerk, Postal (?); and her brother-in-law, David M., 37 years old (b 1883, CT), single, and a farmer.

        At the time of the 1930 Census, Nellie was 49 years old, and living at 164 Flanders Road, Woodbury, CT (Series: T626; Roll: 270; Page: 292; District: 58), with her husband, William (51), a die cutter, at a brass factory; her two daughters, Eunice C. (23), and Jean M. (21), both employed as dental assistants; and her son, D. Bruce (13).

DEATH: Nellie was a resident of Simsbury, CT, when she died, at the age of 97, on 2 Jul 1978, in Hartford, CT.  She is buried with her husband, William (d
4 Jan 1937), at Riverside Cemetery, Waterbury, CT.

(11); her brother, David B. (3 years, 2 months); her Grandfather, Peter, 72 years old (b 1848, Scotland), a clerk, Postal (?); and her Uncle, David M., 37 years old (b 1883, CT), single, and a farmer.

        At the time of the 1930 Census, Eunice was 23 years old, a dental assistant, and living at 164 Flanders Road, Woodbury, CT (Series: T626; Roll: 270; Page: 292; District: 58), with her Father, William (51), a die cutter, at a brass factory; her Mother, Nellie (49); her sister, Jean M. (21), a dental assistant; and her brother, D. Bruce (13).

        Eunice married William O. Finn (b 9 Jun 1902, d 6 Feb 1966).  

DEATH: Eunice was a resident of Farmington, CT, when she died of Tuberculosis, in Hartford, CT, on 8 Jan 1974, at the age of 67.

        At the time of the 1920 Census, Jean M. was 11 years old, and living on her family's farm, on Bethlehem Street, Woodbury, CT (Series: T625; Roll: 187; Page: 272; District: #235), with her Father, William (41), a die cutter and farmer; her Mother, Nellie (39); her sister, Eunice C. (13); her brother, David B. (3 years, 2 months); her Grandfather, Peter, 72 years old (b 1848, Scotland), a clerk, Postal (?); and her Uncle, David M., 37 years old (b 1883, CT), single, and a farmer.

        At the time of the 1930 Census, Jean M. was 21 years old, a dental assistant, and living at 164 Flanders Road, Woodbury, CT (Series: T626; Roll: 270; Page: 292; District: 58), with her Father, William (51), a die cutter, at a brass factory; her Mother, Nellie (49); her sister, Eunice (23), a dental assistant; and her brother, D. Bruce (13).

        Jean married Walter Johnson and lived at 41 Woodchuck hill Road, Simsbury, CT.

DEATH: Jean died at the age of 84, on 1 Mar 1993, in Simsbury, CT.

 

David Bruce Crighton

BIOGRAPHY: 

        At the time of the 1920 Census, David B. was 3 years, 2 months old, and living on his family's farm, on Bethlehem Street, Woodbury, CT (Series: T625; Roll: 187; Page: 272; District: #235), with his Father, William (41), a die cutter and farmer; his Mother, Nellie (39); his two sisters, Eunice C. (13), and Jean M. (11); his Grandfather, Peter, 72 years old (b 1848, Scotland), a clerk, Postal (?); and his Uncle, David M., 37 years old (b 1883, CT), single, and a farmer.

        At the time of the 1930 Census, David (listed as D. Bruce) was 13 years old, and living at 164 Flanders Road, Woodbury, CT (Series: T626; Roll: 270; Page: 292; District: 58), with his Father, William (51), a die cutter, at a brass factory; his Mother, Nellie T. (49); and his two sisters, Eunice C. (23), and Jean M. (21), both employed as dental assistants.

        Dave received his flight training at Parks Air College, East Saint Louis, Illinois. He served in WWII, flying combat missions in B29's over Japan.  He served in the 873rd Bombardment Squadron, Crew 231-14, as Airplane Commander.

        David married Julia Alice Dillon (b 19 Oct 1919, Naugatuck, CT).

        They had four children: Lawrence William and Cynthia Jean (twins - b 1944), Cheryl Ann (b 1947) and Robert Bruce (b 1954). They lived in Cheshire, CT for most of their married life.

        Julie died on 17 May 1964,in Cheshire, CT after suffering for many years with Addison's disease.

        Dave and Julie's daughter, Cynthia Jean (Tin), married Douglas Mott (b 1945) on 2 Mar 1965, in Cheshire, CT, a marriage that ended in divorce. She then married David Eckrote, in North Carolina, and had a son, David Eckrote Jr. (Scooter).

        Dave Crighton married Mae Engle on 16 Oct 1970, in Naugatuck, CT. They lived in Cheshire, and later moved to 414 Canterbury Road, Brooklyn, CT. He worked as a sales engineer for Shell Oil.

        Dave and Julie's son, Lawrence, married Kathleen T. Gillette (b 1956), on 11 Nov 1977, in Cheshire, CT, a marriage that ended in divorce.

        Their daughter, Cheryl (Sherry) married  Richard George Ewing (b 1951), on 13 Mar 1973, at the Church of the Epiphany, in Cheshire, CT.  They had two children, Richard Scott and Christopher, before their divorce.

        Their son, Robert married Nancy E. Mahoney (b 1955), on 22 Oct 1977, in Cheshire, CT.  They had three sons: Kevin, Bryan and Steven.

        Cynthia Jean Eckrote, died of cancer on 23 Nov 1982, at the age of 38, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

DEATH: David died at the age of 78, on 21 Jun 1995, in Brooklyn, CT.

BURIAL: David is buried with his first wife, Julia Alice Dillon (d 17 May 1964), at St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck, CT, in the John and Alice Dillon Family burial plot.
